PostSubject: Let's learn stuff with Payton   May 2nd 2010, 11:07 am

Okay so today on Let's learn stuff with Payton we're going to learn how to make a nicer HTML page than just something like this:
Code:
<html>

<head>
<title>nurr hurr</title>
</head>

<body>
derp
</body>

</html>

First open up a text editor of your choice. Notepad, TextEdit, etc. all work, but you do have the option of better programs, like Notepad++ or jEdit or something...

Anyways, this is my preferred HTML "template," that I use whenever I create pages.
Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
"http://w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

<head>
<title>Page title</title>
<meta name="description" content="Your page's description." />
<meta name="keywords" content="a, keyword, or, two, or more, separated by commas" />
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" />
</head>

<body>

<p>HELLO THANK YOU FOR VIEWING MY WEBSITE I LIKE YOU A LOT</p>

</body>
</html>

And here is the commented version, in case you don't understand some things:
Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
"http://w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <!-- This is the doctype. It is required in XHTML, as it shows that the page is ... in XHTML -->
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <!-- The XMLNS attribute: http://www.w3schools.com/TAGS/att_html_xmlns.asp -->
<!-- The XMLNS attribute is required for valid XHTML -->

<head>
<title>Page title</title>
<meta name="description" content="Your page's description." /> <!-- Your site or page's description -->
<meta name="keywords" content="a, keyword, or, two, or more, separated by commas" /> <!-- Keywords, probably for SEO -->
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" /> <!-- If you have a favicon, you'll put this in, otherwise, remove it -->
</head>

<body>

<p>HELLO THANK YOU FOR VIEWING MY WEBSITE I LIKE YOU A LOT</p>
<!-- If you're going to be using style sheets, you'll want to get into the habit of using the p tag -->

</body>
</html>

My sister once taught me simple HTML. I made a "website" with it.

You should feel awful, because you are a terrible person and will never have a job doing anything coding related, and I hate you.

Die.

but really dreamweaver is for people who can't do anything on their own
