PostSubject: A list of things that needs to be done   June 21st 2011, 12:31 pm

Just a checklist so no one gets lost amid the action, nothing more.
1- Picking a topic:
Before a new main topic can be decided, we need to ask ourselves the following questions: Is the topic in mind interesting enough to build a forum around it? What users/usergroups are we targeting? How can we appeal to them? Are there any other existing forums that discuss this topic? How many? What do we have to offer that's better than those forums?
You can't pick a new name if you don't pick a main topic first, hence the importance and urgency of this one.

2- Promoting a new set of administrators:
The forum should have at least three administrators at all times, excluding the root admin account. All of them should be moderately active, helpful in their own way, and determined enough to put to action the applicable ideas our users come up with.

3- A new name and domain:
Let's face it: We can't keep calling this place the "Club Penguin Planet Forums" once we get our grubby little hands on a completely different major topic. The name has to be memorable, and somehow related to the new topic. We could either combine words or use an original name. Just keep it short, and vote on the one that sounds best. You get the gist of it.

4- Archive the Club Penguin related topics:
Sounds obvious enough.

5- The look and feel:
We could do with a new theme. Something shiny for the newbies to look at it. The interface needs a face-lift to remedy some of the illogical decisions that have been made in regards to it (e.g. reposition the chatbox as Kyuu suggested).

6- Content:
Before we can start begging for new users to sign up, we need topics. Something for people to discuss. No sane person would look at a dull, dry forum for more than five seconds, much less register. Posting two topics per day at the least should be a requirement and a responsibility of the staff. If you can't think of any topics to post, use a generator, draw inspiration from conversations with friends, look to other forums for suggestions, etc.

7- Paperwork:
Some of the information in the stickies is out-dated. The rules could use some revision as well. Here's the big one: Applying the COPPA law. If we learned anything from past events, it's that we should be careful when it comes to security in general.

8- The big, black hole: Advertising:
Simply plastering our URL everywhere isn't going to do much for the forum's reputation. We need new affiliates, blog posts that link back to this place, active users in other forums that have our link in their signatures, extensive research and utilization of techniques that push our ineffectual little forum into the first page of popular search engines, etc. This particular subject calls for a separate thread.

9- Infinity and beyond:
After we get some attention (new users), we need to keep it. Weekly/monthly contests (referral contests, art contests, photoshopping contests, etc) with worthwhile prizes, badges, fun and light activities, chatbox gatherings, and a new moderation team to keep the new bunch in check. It would probably be an appropriate time to start brainstorming for ideas to keep the forum fresh once we get here.


Notes:
- Keep it small; too many categories/forums/sub-forums confuse and drive-off potential new users. If we spread ourselves too thin, it's right back into the gaping inactivity hole.
- A mass email needs to be sent to all users to inform them of the changes to the forum and politely (offer tea and cookies in exchange) ask them to visit. Said email would probably be forgotten like an email from a distant relative, but it's worth a shot..
- If we don't start thinking about the future of the forum, it's doomed to stagnate.
- We have to remember that we're all here for the fun, the interesting conversations, and the occasional bit of bad le'sbian jokes. If the majority of the userbase doesn't think the forum is entertaining, something's off.

Although, knowing today's society and most of you people, it'd be probably so inactive for our age-group.

Add to the staff that the administrators need to actually like the topic of the forum. When I was an Admin with Triton, Sb, and Bronze, none of us did anything because we didn't even like Club Penguin. Would make it easier to stay active too.

Domain name is being covered soon enough, forum names afterwards. It's true, though, we do need to discuss the ranking system. Almost slipped my mind. As for the newsletter, do you mean a mass email? Dark already sent one of those.
