PostSubject: What's going on?   June 27th 2011, 7:29 pm

Attention! The latest update can be found here.

Summary for the absolutely clueless:
We're taking this inactive husk of a Club Penguin forum and turning it into to an active (hopefully) Console and Online Gaming forum. Yes, we're keeping the forum software (Forumotion). And yes, you get to keep your account.

Brief list of changes:
-All old posts will be archived.
-The rules are currently being rewritten.
-A new theme will be applied.
-Forum structure will be renovated (expect different forums and categories).
-Ranking system will be altered.
-New name and domain.

If everything goes according to plan, the forum will go into Maintenance Mode in 2011, July 8th. Why? To allow for an immediate application of all the aforementioned changes. Enter the new domain or the old one and you'll be directed to the forums.

For more information on the domain change, check http://www.clubpenguinplanet.net/t34921-new-domain-vote#638947

Want a more detailed explanation on where the forum is going? Really? Well, that's a first. Read on.

Staff
As of today, the current administration team consists of Admin (Dark), Big Sb, Sjb, DirkD, Bronze, and myself. Until the essentials are dealt with, there will be no new additions to the staff. Meaning that until we get to the advertising stage, there will be no moderation team. No sense in moderating an empty forum, is there?

Administrators are tasked with dealing with the technical side of the forum. They're responsible for rearranging the layout, forum security, promoting and demoting staff, turning applicable ideas into forum features, etc.

Moderators have a more hands-on approach to the forum. Their job is to basically read the reports, keep the forum clean, and make sure everyone's playing fair. That's not all, though, from now on, they'll also be required to interact with the users on daily basis by posting a minimum of two topics of their choice per day to keep things interesting for everyone.

A new addition of the staff will be Specialists. Specialists are users with elevated permissions who'll be handling the consistent creation of content (such as making walkthroughs, bringing the news, writing reviews, etc). Think of them as Graphic Designers or article authors at Cracked, but with video games in general being the main focus instead.

If you think you've got the commitment to become a Specialist, you can apply for a position... once openings are available. More information on this particular subject soon.

If a mod/admin/specialist arbitrarily breaks the rules, remains inactive for a long period without notice, or doesn't do the job expected of them, they'll get suspended.

You can expect the staff to be:
1. Active and dedicated.
2. Better placed geographically to handle a larger userbase.
3. More efficient in doing what is necessary and on time.
4. Less influenced by other users seeking personal gain.
5. Less preoccupied by domination and power and more interested in the forumís interests.

Layout
The new layout will:
1. Reflect the activity and vibrancy of the forum.
2. Present our content in an accessible and practical manner.
3. Be Look professionally made.

We'll contact Big Sb about the theme, seeing as he's the guy who used to handle this stuff. If he and everyone else on this forum is suddenly unwilling or unavailable, I'll make it. You can expect a sneak peek in a few days.

Content
We need to be more conscious of our appearance and the first impressions formed by potential new users. Other than mods and specialists making sure there's always something to talk about, an official YouTube Channel and Twitter account will be created for constant updates and information feeds. Contests and giveaways will be held as soon as possible, which brings us to the next topic...

Donations

To make the activities mentioned above happen (or at least keep them exciting), we'll need money. Most of us are teenagers with no established careers, but if you can spare even a dollar, please contact Colonel Sam via PM or AIM (Dirkdcp) and you'll be gratefully rewarded for your generosity.

Q&A:
-Will there still be a general discussion category once we change the main topic?
Of course.

-What does one get out of being a Specialist?
If the "the satisfaction you'll get out of keeping people interested in your topics" part doesn't get you hooked, it might please you to know that specialists will be paid in the future for their services.
Wait. Does that sound horribly wrong to anyone else but me?

-Are you keeping the current affiliates?
No. New ones will be contacted and added.

-Is the COPPA law going to be applied?
Yes. Any users under the age of thirteen will not be permitted to stay on the forum without parental consent.

Got any feedback/questions? Be sure to reply.
Thanks to Bronze and Sam for your assistance.

I'm sure I could spare some cash to donate. Only problem I have is lack of a credit card. I'll try to work something out for sure.

I can understand the part about the moderators being active and interacting with the users but per chance say they get grounded or something makes a problem of themselves and cannot be there for awhile or a few days, do they get excuses?

I think we're all grown up and couldn't care less about a post count

and base the rank system on how long you've been a member

lastly, if your serious about using IRC, let somebody who knows what their doing handle it, like kyuu or I. also

Can ranks be edited that way? I know it's a part of FM and so maybe.. not? Unless it's been upgraded.

Nice though.
