Look at the Future

Subject: Look at the Future November 7th 2010, 12:16 pm

Yes, others have said this before, but I think we should just start thinking about it in the near future, Club Penguin is soon going to rapidly get boring for most people, so we will have to change the forum's main subject idea eventally, this is just for a little shout because you guys know we are going to have to in order to keep the forums alive.

My big topic idea would possibly be a gaming or teen forum but the teen forum part is basically what this forum has turned into now, so just brainstorm ideas guys.

Roblox may already have an official forum, but didn't CP as well... or close enough to one? Doesn't matter, but I wouldn't support that.

Anyways, it isn't that CP is getting boring, it's just that we/you are growing up/out. People want to stay at the forums, but not for the subject. They want to stay here for the people and topics. CP is just an additional way of getting more members it seems.

We already are a "General Discussion" forum, we just throw CP in the mix so that we at least have a stand on that front. No problem with it. If you don't play CP, don't post in the CP side of the forums? When that half eventually loses enough interest, then maybe CPP will get remodeled.

Thing is, here are our options (from my point of view, anyway)

-Gaming forum (ie. console gaming, not web-based games like Club Penguin)

-Sports forum

-Television and Film forum

They all have issues, though.

-The gaming community online is over-saturated and there are too many forums with too few users. Unless we could get official recognition from a game designer that our forum will be the official forum, which probably won't happen in my lifetime, we would have to scrape out the few users and probably specialize on a certain game/ brand, ie. Mass Effect Forums etc. There is no way a general gaming forum would survive.

-Not many people join forums to discuss sports. Sports fans are usually either watching games, playing on officially licensed console games or talking with their friends about it in real life. Essentially, people to play sports and talk about results in real life, rather than with total strangers. Again, we would only survive if we got official recognition from a specific sports club, ie. [INSERT SPORTS CLUB NAME HERE] Forums.

-People who watch TV usually talk about it online and in real life with friends, or on programme-specific Facebook groups. Why come online and talk to complete strangers about TV when you could just be watching and discussing the programme with your family/ friends in real life?

It'll be hard if we plan on changing, but I can sympathise why you guys are so tired of Club Penguin. It's a dead game, and maybe we need to move on, even if we die with it.
If we do go ahead with this, then lets make it gradual and slow, ensuring we don't make too many rapid changes that will deter the users we have at the moment.

Stay Club Penguin. I have said this before and I will keep saying this but we need to stay Club Penguin or this forum will die. This state right now would be extremely active if we switched topics.

Haha, it could stay active as a Club Penguin forum, just none of you would be here. It would be a bunch of kids and I would have to put a lot of money into it. But, we have found a thread I started in the staff forum in 2008 where me and Boom predicted the demise of the Club Penguin topic.

The reason why it doesn't work is because the users grow up from Club Penguin. To keep it going, new kids would have to come in for as many as go out. And new kids would have to take over rather than the old ones sticking around.

But, that's no fun.

The problem with CP is when Disney took over they advertised to younger kids, so now instead of an average age 12 years old playing it's an average 8 year olds. meaning the forum system is doomed to fail.
