Algebra 2 my friend.

This is how you work it.

54=2x + 4y
18=3x+2y

You need to cancel out the y's by multiplying the bottom equation by (-2)

so,

54=2x + 4y
-36= -6x - 4y

Now the y's cancel out making it:
54=2x
-36=-6x

Now you add the x's and 54 and -36 together making it:

18 = -4x

so x = -4.5

now we have to plug it into the equation for x, so:
54 = -4.5 + 2y,

now add 4.5 to 54.

58.5 = 2y, now divide 2 from 58.5,
so you have:

x = -4.5
y=29.25
