Why not have a topic where people who want to enter post their entries, and after the deadline the users vote on who has the best signature?

Doing it this way gives everyone a chance. It doesn't have to be good, it doesn't have to be a signature. If it is an edited or created image posted in the Gallery within that week, it has a chance to win.

We want to do this weekly. Allowing the users to vote would require too much work to maintain and many users would not have the chance to vote because we would have to close the poll to get the winner.

Each week there is a winner of the badge. We have to know the winner by Saturday so that they can be put onto the Badges template., but anything posted can be accepted up until that morning or the day before. It is a sort of at-the-moment type thing.

Users post their art in the Gallery, like normally. Throughout the week, we (the staff) check every image posted. If we like one, we nominate it. Then on Friday or Saturday, we pick which one is the best and deserves the badge.
