".net" and ".com" seem to be the most famous because they make the most sence out of URL's.

You would have to be paying for 2 domain names and I don't think anyone wants to waste their money so people don't have to type a couple more letters than they should.

No, you can't do that.

The .com address is taken, you'd need to own it to have the /forums/ directory.

You don't know much about domain names, do you iWaddle? You don't have to be an organization to register a .org. Anyone can. Same with .us; .biz; .co.uk; etc.
