Right- click the layer, then press alpha to selection.
Go to select> grow >choose an amount

Make a new layer below the text and fill the selection with black.
Now press CTRL + A, which selects the whole layer. Now go to filters>blur>Gaussian blur and blur by however much you want, but nothing too much.
