I was just wondering... do you think Pluto is a planet?

I think that it is a planet: according to the current definition: than the planets are Mercury, Venus, Saturn, and Uranus (Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto are dwarf planets, even Jupiter). Feel free to post your ideas on the subject.

No, it's already been classified as a dwarf planet. It's very small and doesn't follow orbit pattrerns.

Well since we're not scientists and have no proof to justify our opinions, this thread is pretty much stupid because we'll only state what we are told by scientists, not discovered ourselves.

No. It's still up for debate. The people are still quarreling about it. We can still discuss it. Kool Kat, you're lucky you're a mod. Otherwise you would be my foe. But I can still ignore your PMs and posts and ask others to do so. So there.

Being mod doesn't mean you can't hate me. Make me your foe if you want. All i am doing is stating my opinion and i have the right to do that.
But telling others to ignore me just because im opposing you is merely stupid.

YES, there may be people quarrelling about it, but we can't justify our opinions since we have no proof.

When did i say you couldn't? All i'm doing is stating what i think, and what i think is that we are not in a position to believe whether pluto is a planet or not because we are not scientists.
However if we were to rely on the information that has been put out, then yes i think that it has been proved that pluto is not a planet.

I am a child scientist, actually. I do thought experiments.

I look into the theoretical, the hypothetical, on what could be the case in things. That's why I really like quantum physics, where this thinking is a plus. I also study chemistry, but I like predicting the properties of the heavier elements (like dubnium).

Ok cool.
But i meant we're not scientists or astronomers that are able to examine the planet from information we have obtained from it.
We base our opinions on things that we have read and then draw our own conclusions.
I would really only be able to say whether i think Pluto is a planet or not when i have studied it myself.
But if your looking for my theoretical and hypothetical view, well Pluto does not seem to qualify as a planet from what i've read.

Well technically it is a dwarf planet, which I believe is it's own seperate group. If you only count all of the regular planets in the solar system, we have eight, but if you add all of the dwarf planets (including those recently dicovered (I think)) we have twelve (I think).

Exactly. Pluto may have a classification of its own that seperates it from most of the planets that are closer to the sun.

Dwarf planets are planets too, so there are 11 or 12: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Ceres, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Charon, and Eris. Terrestrial planets are in black, gas giants red, and dwarf planets brown. Pluto and Charon are reffered to as a double-planet system. "Xena" was the former name for Eris. Haumea and Makemake are still up for debate. Sedna is in the Oort Cloud.
