| A Libyan plane carrying 104 passengers crashed on it's way back home from Johannesburg this morning (around 6 a.m), killing all passengers aboard except an 8-year-old Dutch boy.
The A330 airplane (owned by Afriqiyah Airlines) was found a yard away from Tripoli's International Airport's runway. The crash site has been sealed off by government officials, and ambulances are practically running back and forth between the site and the airport. Not a lot regarding this incident has been confirmed, including the fact that that boy really is the only survivor . . . which is why they're holding a news conference later today.
This is the first airplane to literally explode on contact while attempting to land in quite a while around here--just thought I'd point that out.
QOTD: When was the last time an airplane crashed in your area? Wait. That question went somewhere horrible. D:

| I read this while I was meant to be researching Susan Hill. Instantly, I knew you'd point this out ;)
Uhm, the lockerbie bomber is the first that springs to mind, except -that was in Lockerbie, Scotland -it happened liek 2000 years ago
The local and only airport in my area hasn't had any crashes in its history...

| This year is the year of total rampage I guess,I feel sad to those who died and survived. God bless them with his unique blessings.
Last time a plane crashed in my area was 10 years,an airplane was about to fly.Through it's short minute flight it crashed down to the sea, many people died.Especially those my family knew.

| Hmm... Maria is being somewhat hypocritical here. She doesn't care about our news... but she expects us to care about hers... interesting. Anyway, that's sad. | |

| Are you suggesting you would have instead liked her to come out of the blue and demand what aviation-related explosions happened in our area recently? | |

I would have preferred it, yes? Anyway, her main point of the post wasn't to ask the question.

| No, and knowing Maria you may never know what the point is. What we do know is that she posted some local news and asked for some in return.
Conclusion : She either cares or wants to laugh at the pilot's/engineer's failures

| What a coincidence, a plane crashed near my school like 3 days ago. Woman and child were hurt, not severely wounded. | |

I don't expect anything from you, Dirk, nor did I demand that you show sympathy for people even I don't really care about. I like how you persumed that I only care about "my news," too. Because, you know, I'm really patriotic. Tell me, which part gave me out? The fact that I loath this place? Or the fact that I'd be more than willing to assassinate my country's leader if given the chance? If you want to post some Texas-related news--I'm sure life is very exciting up there--be my guest. As to why I posted this: I found it very intriguing that an eight-year-old boy survived this ordeal uninjured. P.S: I'm not that heartless, Kyuu. - Iced8383 wrote:

What's so bad about Airbus? I don't see the difference between them and Boeing, but again, I don't know much about airplanes. =P

| I read about this news, yep it's some kind of a miracle that an 8 year old survives while 103 die. The child only has a broken leg,my dad told me about this.
I immediately remembered this topic :D

| You guys know these stuff happen very few times in each century.
Once an airplane crashed and everybody died, only a baby survived hanging on a tree.
Same thing happened here, imagine,an airplane crashed with every shred of it's alloys, massacre, blood, bodies slaughtered into all sides and one person stands beneath of our eyes and survived. This is something incredible,a boy survives with only a broken leg while others were doomed to be massacred, this is probably the most interesting news of 2010.

They think the boy was sitting in the front, and yes, this is basically a miracle of god.

| There was a movie like that, one guy triggered on purpose a lot of accidents in America where everyone died but on the 3rd/4th time he found a survivor. | |

| Sure was. The chances of being in a plane crash are something like one in thirteen billion. | |

A380. 'Nuf said. Boeing has had lots of roof losses and Airbus has none.

| *Sigh* Airbus in general makes terrible planes. I don't care if Aeroflot 593 was caused by a kid at the controls. It was Airbus' fault for not having a more noticeable warning signal that the autopilot had been disengaged. And that terribly designed fly-by-wire system? Main blame for the Qantas Flight 71 & 72 incidents (Both plunged from about 36,000 feet to a dangerously low altitude.) And I do believe at one airshow shortly after the A300 was released one crashed into some bushes at the end of a runway. And Airbus will never be able to compete with the plane life of Boeings. Now just let me list a few other Airbus crashes caused by the plane itself.
March 1st 2010: An Airbus A300's port landing gear collapses.
November 27 2008: Same thing as Qantas 72, due to a computer fault. The aircraft was an A320.
August 24 2001: Air Transat Flight 236 runs out of fuel and glides for 30 minutes before landing in the Azores. It's a miracle that they landed safely.
That's what I mean by Boeing is a better company. Airbuses should be banned from the US and other countries.
And Chub, when you were referring to roofs falling off or whatever, I knew immediately that you were referring to Aloha Airlines Flight 243. IT'S NOT BOEING'S FAULT. Boeing actually tried to prevent the disaster from happening by issuing a bulletin recommending the service lives of the 737. Aloha Airlines went well over that limit. After all, that particular plane was the second oldest operating 737.
